Toggles - The Perfect Clasp

A toggle (here)consists of two parts: a ring and a bar, as shown in figure 1. The toggle bar must be equipped with a lead (a short chain or strand of seed beads that is just over half the length of the toggle bar) in order to insert and remove the toggle bar from the ring. Furthermore, the width of the bar and lead together must be a bit narrower than the opening of the toggle ring. (figure 2)

The lead is the part of a bracelet that takes the greatest stress. If it’s made of chain, the links must be soldered. And if you have to attach your own chain lead, do so with small split rings used in parallel as though they were one. Never attach the lead with a jump ring.
